February 24, 2008: Managing Partner Areva Martin will be presented with First AME’s Trailblazer Award for 2008 on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 12 noon at the church located at 2229 Harvard Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Areva is being recognized for her work on behalf of women and children and her contribution to the Los Angeles’ legal community. First AME Church is the oldest African American church in Los Angeles. The church’s 19,000 members makes it one of the country’s largest congregations. This event is open to the public.
February 8 and 21, 2008: The firm presented workshops at schools, community centers and churches on keeping students safe in schools. The firm’s Education Practice Group designed this workshop for parents, educators and stakeholders to address the growing number of cases involving school abuse related to teachers, students and third parties. This 90 minute interactive workshop provides practical strategies that can be implemented to keep students safe on elementary, secondary and college campuses. January 12, 2008: Firm attorneys participate in Beyond Elite Productions’ 3rd Annual 5K Community Race and Walk in the Leimert Park community of Los Angeles. This annual event brings together professional runners, community leaders and families for a morning of exercise and fun. Special Needs Network, Inc., the non-profit started by Managing Partner Areva Martin to provide resources to families raising children with special needs, were selected to receive a donation from the race. The firm joined hundreds of others as they walked and ran for those children living with autism.
