December 22, 2008: Martin & Martin hosts Annual Toy and Food Give-Away. The firm partnered with Special Needs Network, Inc. and gave toys and food baskets to 30 families at a part of its annual toy-drive. Firm staff and attorneys donated items and participated in a holiday party with families and good old Saint Nick at the Junior Blind of America.
December 9, 2008: Managing Partner, Areva D. Martin, Esq., honored at Women of Worth CNN Inspire Summit Sponsored by L’Oreal of Paris. Ms. Martin joined other L'Oreal Paris “Women of Worth” Honorees at the CNN Inspire Summit in New York. Ms. Martin was recognized for her outstanding volunteer achievements and positive influences on her community. She received a monetary donation for her cherished non-profit, Special Needs Network, and a donation was made in her name to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Ms. Martin was selected for this prestigious award by an elite group of judges including Soledad O'Brien, CNN Anchor and Karen Fondu, President of L'Oreal Paris.
December 8, 2008: Firm Welcomes Another Harvard Law School Graduate, Maurice Kane, Esq. Mr. Kane joins the Labor and Employment and Civil Litigation Practice Group with over 20 years of litigation experience. An honors graduate of the University of Southern California and Harvard Law School, Mr. Kane represents clients in labor and employment, real estate, catastrophic torts and civil litigation matters. Former Deputy Attorney for the California Department of Transportation, Mr. Kane has public and private sector litigation and trial experience. He has extensive jury trial experience in state and federal court and serves as a judge pro-tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Kane is an adjunct professor at the University of La Verne College of Law. He serves on numerous business, civic and charitable boards including the Covina Library Board of Trustees and the Greater San Gabriel Valley League of Women Voters.
December 3, 2008: Managing Partner, Areva D. Martin, Esq., honored with the prestigious Power Hero Award by the Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation. Ms. Martin received the 2008 Power Heroes Award at a star-studded event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. The event was sponsored by the Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation and other honorees included Angela Bassett, Lou Gossett, Jr., John Amos, Paula Madison and Valerie Erwin. All honorees were selected for their outstanding community service and contributions to organizations that serve children and families. Ms. Martin was introduced by friend and award-winning actress, Vanessa Bell Calloway. Proceeds benefited research involving African American children diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Martin, Esq., was honored at the 5th Annual National Association of University Women Scholarship Luncheon at the Gateway Sheraton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Selected for her leadership on issues impacting women, Ms. Martin joined a distinguished list of honorees selected by one of nation's oldest organizations, which promotes the interest of women on college and university campuses.
November 17, 2008: Martin & Martin hosts clients at “Reflections on Leadership” at the Wilshire Ebell. The firm hosted clients and other professional women at the Wilshire Ebell where Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke, Ret. Provided a standing room only crowd of female business, civic and government leaders with insights gained over her near 50 years of public service. Areva Martin, chair of Women in Leadership at the Ebell, has hosted a cadre of women leaders including Speaker of the California Assembly Karen Bass and Los Angeles City Controller Laura Chick at the Ebell, where hundreds of professional women come together for an opportunity to network and to engage with the Country's leading female leaders.
October 28, 2008: Martin & Martin, LLP hosts “Getting Down to Business” Event with Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas. Martin & Martin, LLP presented a business round-table featuring former State Senator Mark Ridley Thomas (currently Los Angeles County Supervisor, 2nd District) Business executives and entrepreneurs came together to discuss the economy, business opportunities, jobs and issues that impact the health and safety of residents of Los Angeles County.
